Biography
Sony Ismail Robayani (Sony J-Rocks) is the lead guitarist of Indonesian rock band J-Rocks and a key figure in the country’s modern rock scene. Since the band’s formation in 2003, Sony’s energetic playing and distinctive tone have been central to J-Rocks’ identity.
After winning the Nescafé Get Started 2004 competition, J-Rocks released a series of successful albums and made history as the first Indonesian band to record at Abbey Road Studios. With numerous hit singles, major tours, and multiple AMI Awards, the band continues to influence generations of rock fans.
Sony’s guitar style blends technical precision, emotion, and bold experimentation. For his performances and recordings, he relies on FGN (Fujigen) guitars, valuing their exceptional craftsmanship, tonal clarity, and reliability. FGN instruments support Sony’s expressive playing and deliver the consistency required on stage and in the studio, making them an essential part of his sound.
